Sunday May 23 will kick-off the 2010 Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series. The May date for CSTS is going to be unique in that the triathlon will be for the first time out of the traditional summer months and will kick-off the first five race Series in CSTS history. As a note; the first six years of the Series were a three race format. The next thirteen years we have had a four race format.
If you have not registered for CSTS #1 (May 23); online registration will continue until midnight Friday May 21. There will be NO late registration fee in place for online registration for this race. Late Registration and packet pick will be available Saturday from 5 to 7 PM at James Island County Park. Packet pick up will resume at 6 AM on Raceday. Best plan, if possible, is to pick up on Saturday to avoid longer lines on Sunday. If not please arrive early (6 AM) on Raceday.
The field for May 23 will be significantly less (projecting about 225 participants) than typical CSTS dates. There will still be a nine wave start; however, the waves (and bike course) will not be as crowded as usual and we are anticipating really great racing conditions. For folks wanting to score early points in the Series Standings- come and get it!
It is hard to believe that this summer will mark the Twentieth Anniversary of the Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series. Nearly 25,000 people have raced in CSTS over the years and with the demand for entry continuing at a very high level the decision has been made to expand the Series to FIVE races.
Due to safety and quality issues, it has been impossible for us over the years to expand the individual triathlons to greater and greater numbers of participants, so adding a race, although a mighty challenge in itself, seems to be the best way to accommodate the demand. Most of our summer is spent trying our best to squeeze everyone into the Series but unfortunately each summer we have to turn away several hundred people who miss the cut-off numbers. Hopefully, adding an additional race will mean fewer people turned away.
The Series Points Standings will continue to be based upon the top finishes in three races. Remember, this is the best site for updated race and registration information and projections. Your Active.com receipt is your confirmation; we do not send additional confirmation. The preregistered list will be posted on the Tuesday before each racedate.
